Research Theme(s) k.bailey@sheffield.ac.uk

Karen has a background in C4 photosynthesis, having attained her Ph.D. with Professor Richard Leegood from the University of Sheffield in 1998, and subsequently worked with the C4 rice project, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the EU3to4 project.

She joined LC3M in March 2019 and her primary duty was the development of an IRGA technique using a custom soil chamber to measure soil respiration. Her current role involves research into enhanced rock weathering using application of minerals specifically at elevated CO2. She will be conducting mesocosm experiments to determine the effect of elevated CO2 on carbon dioxide removal and enhanced rock weathering using cereal and N2-fixing crops. These will specifically address the effects of elevated CO2 on soil chemistry and CO2 fluxes.
